  • 2 cups finely chopped apples (preferably Granny Smith)
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon turbinado sugar (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 3 minutes).
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition; then stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually mix in dry ingredients alternating with sour cream, starting and ending with dry ingredients.
  6. Gently fold in chopped apples and nuts until evenly distributed.
  7. Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan and sprinkle turbinado sugar on top.
  8. Bake for about 50–60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow cooling in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
