Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef, chicken, or turkey
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme (or ½ teaspoon dried)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 package of puff pastry (2 sheets, thawed)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Caramelize the Onions: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions with a pinch of salt and cook slowly for about 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Set aside to cool.
  2. Prepare the Filling: In a bowl, mix ground meat with caramelized onions, thyme, salt, and pepper. Optionally add grated cheese and Dijon mustard.
  3. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  4. Assemble Rolls: Roll out puff pastry on a floured surface; cut into rectangles. Place filling on each rectangle, fold over, seal edges with a fork, and brush tops with beaten egg.
  5. Bake: Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
